Vive la difference
Psalm 24 (KJV) I'm just using the KJV because it's so poetic, not to start a translations argument! :*)
The earth is the Lord's, and the
fullness thereof; the world, and
they that dwell therein.
For he hath founded it upon
the seas, and established it upon
the floods.
Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord?
Or who shall stand in his holy place?
He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart;
who hat not lifted up his soul unto vanity,
nor sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive the blessing from the Lord,
and his righteousness from the
God of his salvation.
This is the generation of them that
seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob.
Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and
be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors;
and the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory? The Lord
strong and mighty, the Lord mighty
in battle.

Christ is the King, His cross, his glory,
and by love he rules.
Note the great care that the writers of the psalter used to be as true to the psalm as possible; while the contemporary song, to its credit, expressing biblical and Christological truths, goes its own way much of the time. Can we or our children learn Pslam 24 by singing this contemporary song?
I liken the psalter to the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Three Forms of Unity. These, like the psalter, are not inerrent infallible documents, as only the Bible posesses this quality. However, my question is, as we look to these ancient documents for our public and private worship, shouldn't we be just as careful with the music that we use in worship? Would we rather be governed by these confessions or by fundamentalist creeds? In the same way, which song is more biblical for our worship?
